let me underneath your halo
So I says to myself, "Self," I says, "It's a damn shame there isn't more Mary Winchester source. That gal sure needs to be vidded." And then I went ahead and did it anyway.

Song: "Madonna" by Cocorosie
Source: Supernatural

Let me underneath your halo.

Miss Madonna won't you give me a kiss
One of your soft sweet lágrimas
Miss Madonna won't you give me a kiss
One of your soft sweet lágrimas

Oh miss Madonna won't you please give me a kiss
Give me one of those soft sweet lágrimas
'Cause I felt your pain
When your baby was slain
And I tossed some roses to perfume his grave
Oh miss Madonna won't you let me underneath your halo
'Cause it's raining hard
Raining hard in this abyss
Oh miss Madonna where you goin' after church
In the preacher's car
You know I won't tell nobody
That you've been smoking cigars
I won't tell nobody
Tell nobody
That you've been smoking cigars

Miss Madonna won't you give me a kiss
One of your soft sweet lágrimas
Miss Madonna won't you give me a kiss
One of your soft sweet lágrimas

This is so lovely! Sweet and heartbreaking and just...lovely! I love how it captures the boys' (especially Dean's, because of course, he actually remembers her, a bit) reverence and longing for even just a brief brush of her lips...a mother's reassuring kiss. The etherealness of the high vocals (and the otherworldliness of the random noises) emphasize the ghostiless of Mary (both in memory and as an apparition) in contrast with the more solid, rhythmic chords underneath which are Sam and Dean tromping through their lives without her.

The vid leaves me with a sort of pure, hollow achiness inside my chest, ringed around the edges with a moistness that creeps up and prickles at my eyes to come out.

::hugs you gently for this vid::

*hugs you tight*

You have no idea how much your comments and insight (on this vid and others) just, always, totally make my day. Thank you!

Raining hard in this abyss
The musicality is beautifully rendered. The glitching and the static noise is great. The whole piece is moody and sweetly creepy. I love the subtle use of the dijn over Mary at 1:38 and the face over Mary at 2:48. The use of the limited clips from the source is amazing. You tell a quiet story with well chosen scenes and shots.

I'm glad you liked it! The limited source was a challenge, but a fun challenge, and luckily the song did most of the work for me. :) Thanks for commenting! (And thank you for the rec as well!)

Oh wow. There's a great haunted quality throughout this and an intense feeling of loss. And how much do I love that you never show Mary actually burning on the ceiling?!

Heh, I decided before going in that the ceiling clips were off-limits -- and it's awesome that you noticed their absence. I'm happy that you liked the vid, thank you!

I like the haunted tenderness of this, and I like that you wove in the sense of unanswered questions/untrustworthiness that S3 brought up, without lessening the sense of the love Mary felt for her children.

Thank you! That was one of the big things I wanted to convey -- Mary's perspective as well as the lingering questions and the stories/photographs/rumors that remain. I'm glad that came through.

This is really gorgeous, and sad, and - with your use of the phone and other sound effects - chilling, too. I actually think my favorite part was the "I won't tell nobody that you've been smoking cigars" bit. That gave me the chills, in the best way. There are all these things we don't know about Mary, and you hinted at those while still keeping up her portrayal as the mother in the white dress.

I never know how to intelligently comment about vids, but this is incredibly well done. I love how quiet and haunting it is, and you make excellent use of the limited source text. Beautiful.

Wow! What an amazing song for vidding, with all the groovy background noises, and you used them SO WELL. This is just a gorgeous vid, and it hurts, in the good way.

HUGS AND CONGRATS!

This is simply wonderful! I can't help but think that this will be all the more shattering when we finally learn more about Mary. ♥

Hey -just wanted to let you know this vid was rec'd at [info]crack_impala - I loved how you threaded the scenes together from Mary in the house, and the boys returning to it. Thanks for such a great vid!

Oh my God, I'm crying. I actually just had to leave my mom a voicemail to tell her I love her.

Amazing video! <3

Lagrimas
I have to admit that I wondered at first how much could be done with Mary given her relatively brief bits in the show. But I think you managed to give her a strong place within the family here and I was glad to see someone take her on.

Oh wow *speechless*

The choice of clips, editing, music - everything just right! *memmed*

This is wonderful, and I love how you've gotten across so many layers and moods with so little source material. This I think does capture how her memory/ghostly-presence/absence is so important on the show.

Finally watched this yesterday, and I loved it. Mary is defined by where she isn't--yes, totally.
