anyway, i can try anything
it's the same circle leading to nowhere, and i'm tired now.
anyway, i've lost my face, my dignity, my look
all of these things are gone and i'm tired now.

but don't be scared, i found a good job
and i go to work every day on my old bicycle you loved.
i'm piling up some unread books under my bed and i really think i'll never read again.
no concentration, just a white disorder everywhere around me
you know i'm so tired now.

but don't worry i often go to dinners and parties
with some old friends who care for me, take me back home and stay.
monochrome floors, monochrome walls
only absence near me, nothing but silence around me.
monochrome flat, monochrome life
only absence near me, nothing but silence around me.

sometimes i search an event or something to remember
but i've really got nothing in mind.
sometimes i open the windows and listen
people walking in the down streets.
there is a life out there.
but don't be scared, i found a good job
and i go to work every day on my old bicycle you loved.

anyway, i can try anything
it's the same circle leading to nowhere and i'm tired now.
anyway, i've lost my face, my dignity, my look

Carnivale and you
I meant to corner you at the convention and tell you how much I enjoyed this vid. As a fellow Carnivale devotee, I was delighted to see the story from Ben's side. I think you truly brought out his struggle to understand who he is and *why* he is. It was a gorgeous vid and I am so, so glad you made it.

I got it thank you.

Since this was first announced as one of the videos coming out of VVC this year I have been waiting patiently to see it. I am not disappointed. The vid is just so mesmerizing! It’s very powerful and a great look into Ben’s journey. It’s going to be on my replay list for some time, I can tell you that now. It’s already sitting in my “fav” folder pleading at me to watch it again. *g*

The pace of this video was just perfect and reflected the song well. And the song, what a song! I’ve never heard it before now but it’s just the most beautiful thing that I’ve heard in a while and a great choice for Carnivàle (the tinkling sound in the background just sounds like a fairground to me). Because I love the song so much (thanks to you) I have made a note to listen to more of Yann Tiersen’s music.

I must end this by saying bravo! Thank you for sharing this great video.

Yay, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that you heard that fairground-esque sound in the song as well. That's what made me think "Carnivale" for the song to begin with. :)

And yes, Yann Tiersen is fabulous; among other things, he did the soundtrack for the movie Amelie. And although the music in "Monochrome" is all Yann Tiersen, the vocals were done by another French musician called Dominique A. You might want to check out his music as well. He's got a different musical style than Yann Tiersen, but a great voice.

Because of this vid, I am going to *have* to watch the show. I absolutely need to be able to fully understand it, because it's just that wonderful. Chills. Still. Every time. :} And I showed it to Gerry and he thought it was great too and completely echoed my need to see the show now. ;D

Beautiful, beautiful song. You really have something of Ben captured with this vid. The lyrics of the song are used wonderfully without being heavy handed. Love the on-beat-ness of certain parts. Great place to end it.

Incredible vid!

The song choice is perfect. Monochrome, when the entire show is sepia-tinged! The lyrics work well for Ben, there is that hint of discordant carnival music in the middle, and the entire song lurches just a little bit off beat, keeping you uncomfortable.

I admire the way that the pace of the vid changed so well with the song. It goes from these rather static shots of Ben to him running into the field when it first picks up the pace. And then, around 1:45, the clip changes just start accelerating away and it's like Ben is desperately trying to catch up, keep all those balls in the air.

In the last half you kept doing these tiny jumps back and forth in time, which looked gorgeous and worked with that lurching sense of the music.

Thanks for sharing it!

Absolutely amazing!!! Before I watched this I thought for some reason that I would fall in love with the song and fall in love I did :)
I love how you captured the mood of the show in general and Ben's story in particular.
