She asked me to work on that knot
Now I've been at that
coalface some time
I've been trying to untie that knot
I'm trying to work it to a soft spot
and lie there a while
Just south of her shoulder
and west of her spine

Now you'd think that I could
untie that knot
I'm the one who put it there in
the first place
But it's like trying to remember
where you've buried treasure
Well I've a vague idea
but it was under the pale moon light
And I was south of her shoulder
and west of her spine

Sometimes early in the morning
I watch her breathing rise and fall
I've spilled in drunk beside her
in the stillness of dawn
See how her hair spills over
like frayed ends of twine
All wild and wrapped around her
like these wandering arms of mine
Well I hope they find a soft spot
where I can lie for a while
Just south of her shoulder
and west of her spine

Now careful not to wake her
I trace back along the twine
To where her never endings sing
of too much of my time

It's here I'll rest my chin
and breathe her deep and smile
For I think I've found a soft spot
and I'll lie here a while
It's here I'll raise my flag
and claim this land as mine
Just south of her shoulder
and west of her spine

OMG. ::flails:: I think this might be the best Dexter vid I have ever seen. LOVE. Will say more later when I can be coherent; right now I just want to rewatch and rewatch.

Yes, still. (:

I loved this vid. The pacing of it, the way the lilt of the song contrasted with the scenes you showed us. It really did a magnificent job of summing up Rudy & Dexter for me. It's the kind of vid that I want to watch over & over again.

Beautifully done.

And you handled the firestorm that followed with grace & aplomb.

*gives you a big round of applause*

You = win. Hopefully after a few more rewatches I'll have some more coherent feedback. But for now...yes. You = WIN.

I wasn't at VVC, but I know my reaction there would have been the same as now...because I know Dexter, and going in with that knowledge made those opening shots with Deb such a lure, a tease (and I just sat there waiting rather gleefully for the other shoe to inevitably drop). What I really liked about this was the structure -- you begin with what's fake (Rudy/Deb) and the song choice is juxtaposed against that, but then you circle around to what is sincere (Brian and his real connection to Dexter, even if it's all effed-up), at which point the song choice becomes quite tender. I enjoyed the cleverness of that approach!

I've been looking forward to seeing this ever since the first con reports started trickling in, and finally I have seen it, and it's everything I thought it would be AND MORE. I may be able to articulate something more - uh, articulate - after hundreds more viewings, but in the meantime I just needed to come in and say how much I adored this, and how much I am amazed at your utter genius at conceiving the idea, as well as your awesome editing skill in bringing it about.

And your opening title is a thing of great genius! Except I used the word "genius" already. Damn this shoddy vocabulary of mine.

Brilliant. I already told you how much I love this, but now I tell you again. Brilliant.

I've never watched Dexter. I only recognize Dexter vids when I see the guy from Six Feet Under. That's why you TOTALLY GOT ME with this vid, and I love you soooo much for it!!!

Your match of song and source KICKED MY ASS, as did the point when I realized I wasn't watching a sweetness and lovey vid. FUCKING GORGEOUS!!!!

I really enjoyed this video!

this was SO AWESOME, and has also served as a pimp vid for me. let us not ponder what that says about my psyche. *g* but yes, so gorgeous, and the first few images that are just slightly off, that don't fit in quite right and then the transition into horror that's so smooth you realize you've been watching it the whole time. LOVE IT.

Excellent use of the show and the song, and absolutely beautiful to watch.

Passing on a comment from a (non-fannish) coworker
The Wednesday before VVC one of my coworkers was bouncing excitedly about having discovered Dexter, so I go back I lent her my DVDs and told her to watch "West of Her Spine". She loved it and was completely impressed by the quality of the work and I told her I'd pass on her joy with it.
