VID: "Fitz & Dizzyspells" (Return to Oz)

Eeee, reveals are up! (I KNEW hollywoodgrrl was behind my awesome vid!) I need to scour the reveals post and see which other vidders I guessed correctly, if any, and figure out who made my favorites. So exciting! But first, time to post mine.

Song: "Fitz & Dizzyspells" by Andrew Bird

Notes: Made for azarsuerte in the festivids challenge. I tried to focus more on the book canon (at least, as much as the source allowed), because I'm a big fan of Baum's original work, too -- but I also got a little side-tracked by the creepy crackiness of the film, and Fairuza Balk's adorable determined face. Best Dorothy Gale ever. I hope you liked the vid! Thanks to the usual crowd for giving it a look over and appreciating the chickens, and especially to renenet for graciously helping me out with my last-minute "oh crap I don't have a signed version of my avi!" drama. <3

Comes and goes
Like in fits and dizzy spells
Like the weather

And it blows
Like it knows what's going wrong
Like it's clever

Has a name but the name goes unspoken
Weather vanes
Were all twisted and broken
So soldier on, soldier on

Flailing to the whir of a snack machine
And muted screams of an old regime
And then oh
Something gets in it
The nightshade gets in it
We were all fast asleep
Were all so fast asleep
But you woke us
You woke us from the strangest dream that an aubergine could ever know
Would ever know

Lava flows over crooks and craggy cliffs to the ocean
And explodes in a steam heat fevered cyclical motion
Has a name
But the name goes unspoken
It's in vain
Cause the language is broken
So cast your own, cast your own
Soldier on

This is incredible!

I, too, am a huge fan of the Baum originals and as a kid I was kind of a purist. This totally makes me want to to go back and rewatch Return to Oz as an adult. I think it'll be right up my adult brain's alley.

You did a great job with the vid. It works magnificently well.

OMG this is brilliant. I adore this movie, I've met maybe three people in my entire life who actually know what the fuck I'm talking about when I mention it and nobody ever appreciates how amazing it is, or if I try to tell them about it they think I'm having them on about the scariness of this film and/or the orginal books. You, you get it, you understand it a thousand percent. You get the magic, wonder, and oh-dear-god-stuff-of-nightmares essence of the original, and you picked the perfect song for it and ajgkdfsjgfd I am so happy about this you don't even know. Fantastic.

(This is the first time I've ever been able to deploy this icon to a relevant post. w00t!)
